"Mama! My Light Turned On!"

That is how I woke up this morning.  Zoë was thrilled that her light turned on when she woke up.  As soon as I opened her door she said, "I watch cartoons now, pwees?"

Our power came back on sometime during the night. I'm not exactly sure when. I went to bed around 9:30 and was out like a light (ha!) until Zoë called for me this morning. No complaints here. I had great fun playing with Zoë by candle light and flash light.  Good times. I think six hours is just long enough to be out of power. After that you kind of run out of things to do.  :)

It was so nice to know that we were prepared for the outage. We would have been fine for days.  Do you have an emergency supply box at home?  If you do, good job!!!  If not, here is my list of "must haves."  You will need more items in an emergency of course, but these items have proven the most useful to us.

  • Crank powered flashlights. No worries about not having batteries, just crank and go! I bought a four pack of them at Costco last month. They are fantastic!
  • Crank powered radio. Ours also has a built in light, siren, and cell phone charger. That is a must have.  It is soooo quiet with no power.
  • Tea light candles and Jar Candles. We have three jar candles in our supply bin but oddly enough tea light candles put off more light. We cluster them on a plate and let them go. They don't last as long as jar candles so we keep both.
  • Glow Sticks. If you have a little one at home, these are a must have. They will have fun for hours playing with the glow sticks.

That is all for now. We have a busy day ahead of us as we get ready for Dad's visit tomorrow. Have a wonderful weekend!

We really need to do this - would be so much easier than running around in the dark looking for flashlights and candles!

WOW, I had no clue you were out, We didnt go one minute without power, Not even a flicker, But I was all set too! Not as set as YOU, but I had my candle/flashlight/radio box ready to go. But no need, Thank god, There was a red sox playoff game that night!!!
