A Good Weekend

This has been a great weekend. Lot of family time, which has been a rarity these days. Thankfully, Kelly's trip to Romania marks the end of his travels for a while (fingers crossed). I will have to get the pictures of Romania that he took with his cell phone and post them on the blog. Romania is much more beautiful then I imagined it to be, and he did a great job capturing it with his cell phone! I think the pictures might even be print quality. Small prints, but still. It's something!

So, this weekend. Actually, let me back up to Thursday. Thursday, Zoë's preschool class took a field trip to the Botanical Gardens. We have only ever been there to see the Christmas lights in the winter, so it was nice to see everything in bloom. I took tons of pictures (shocking, I know). One of the other moms was nice enough to take a picture of me with Zoë. I just love how it turned out. :)

Beach_web_3 Friday, Zoë had a play date with her friend Jack. Those two are good buddies. We have had play dates together all year long. The day could not have been more perfect. I am so glad that Patti (Jack's nanny) suggested the park around 10am.) I would have thought that was too early, but we got one of the last parking spots and it was already warming up! I am also very glad that Patti told me that she was packing a change of clothes for Jack because Zoë and Jack were wading waist deep in Lake Washington and playing on the beach before they retreated to the play area. You can really tell from the pictures, but the park is right on the water with a gorgeous view of Seattle, and is within walking distance to downtown Kirkland. It is gorgeous.

Do you like Zoë's new prescription sunglasses? We picked them up before going to the park. She had transition lenses last year, but she really wanted fun sunglasses like everyone else wears. Shockingly, she chose blue frames. :)

Saturday, Zoë had her first soccer practice. She was so excited to go play and it just turned out miserably. Practice was at 10am and I swear that even at that early hour it was at least 85 degrees on the "field." I use the term loosely because seriously, look at the pictures. We live in Seattle for Pete's sake! It looks Zoë had practice in the desert! They couldn't find a field that had a smidge of grass or some shade?

Don't get me wrong, Zoë did have fun for the three minutes or so she was kicking the ball into the goal, but most of the time she and the other kids were just standing around. It was all I could do not to say, "OK" when she wanted to leave. I don't want to teach her that it is OK to quit just because you get a little bit hot, but dang! I could not wait to get off that field either and I know Kelly was not having a good time. He is not a fan of the heat (just in case that little tidbit has escaped you.)

Speaking of heat, our air conditioning plans may be scrapped. Cost aside, it is turning into a terrible pain in the...well, you know. It has to be installed on Limited Common Area, which in our case, is our back patio. We were willing to give up a couple feet to the A/C unit, but as it turns out, they are 3'x3' and must be installed a foot away from the building and fence. That is essentially half of our back patio and renders it pretty much useless. That is a problem, considering that is were we spend quite a bit of our summer. Kelly measured our front balcony this afternoon and it is technically large enough to put the A/C so we need to get yet another installation estimate and present our proposal to the board. The front balcony would be the perfect spot since we are almost never out there. (It is scorching hot in the afternoon sun.) I am not getting my hopes up too high though because I highly doubt the board is going to approval such a visible installation, even if Kelly is on the board.

Zoë woke up at 6:15 this morning, probably because it was so blasted hot in her room. She slept with her window and door open so she was up with the sun and wandered into our room. I'm not used to that. It kind of freaks me out to wake up with someone at eye level just looking at me while I sleep, but I digress. Since she was up and I was up, we decided to let Kelly sleep in and work on switching her room. The guest bedroom (now Zoë's room) is 100x cooler than her old room because of the window fan. We were already planning to move her into the bigger room so I wanted to get her out of her old hot room ASAP. (Plus the painters are coming in about a week.) I now see why being a morning person is so appealing. Zoë and I had her room cleaned out and the small items switched in both rooms by 8:30. By 10:30 we had all had breakfast and Kelly had disassembled Zoë's bed and reassembled it in her new room. She has so much more space now and it at least ten degrees cooler in there if not more. I will post pictures once the paint is up and the room is more put together.

We also made a trip to Costco today. I love being so productive! We used our Costco rewards check that came in the mail, so that was even better! It was like free groceries! Once Zoë wakes up from her nap we are going to run a few more errands then finish the day off with a little bit of Mario Cart. It was definitely a good weekend.
